About Nicole Troster

Plan. Build. Rinse. Repeat.

I have spent 16 years running operations, building partnerships, and earning the trust of governments and institutions. Now, as a fractional executive, I bring that experience to tech companies to help them grow.

One Thread Through 16 Years

I am a builder at heart and every role I have held has focused on the same thing: take an idea to a working operation, and make sure it can grow sustainably.

I learned operations on the ground. At Carpedia International, I worked on-site with The Ritz-Carlton, Dynacare, and Rich's Products, changing processes, training and reporting systems to improve organizational performance. At the ADR Institute of Canada, I ran national programs for clients including AMEX Bank of Canada and Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long-term Care, with responsibility for budgets, contractors, and reporting.

I learned how decisions get made. At the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, I was promoted four times, from Research Analyst to Director of Provincial Affairs. I advocated to all three levels of government, including work that raised Ontario's Employer Health Tax exemption threshold, meaning that small businesses pay less tax. I was then recruited to lead Ontario's Red Tape Challenge, working with 13 ministries to cut business costs by more than $100 million over two years. Today, those same relationships help the tech companies I work with open doors that would otherwise take years to build.

I built and ran a business inside a university. I completed a Master's in Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology at the University of Waterloo and did due diligence work and investment assessments for angel funds. I then managed Toronto Metropolitan University's Innovation Boost Zone, where I landed Telus as an experiential learning partner and built a mentor network with over 30 experts. In 2020, I founded ELLA at York University. I took it from two regional programs to three national programs, ran it on a $1M annual budget, and kept it running through the pandemic. Nearly 2,700 founders came through ELLA, and their ventures generated $33.8 million in revenue, raised $13 million, and created 223 jobs.

I saw what founders needed most. The ELLA founders who grew fastest past $200,000 in revenue had a senior person working alongside them on a specific problem. I built a fractional executive program to give them the expertise to accelerate their growth, and in 2022, I founded Coeurage Labs so any founder, not just those in a program, could have that kind of senior partner working alongside them.

Today, I work inside growing companies as a fractional executive. I take on the work founders do not have time for, but cannot afford to get wrong, and I see it through to results. Founders get a senior operator who has done it before, at the moment they need one the most.

How I Work

You Always Know Where Things Stand
A regular check-in and short written updates keep you plugged into priorities, progress, and decisions. If something is not working, you hear it from me first.

I Keep My Client List Small
I work with a small number of companies at a time. That keeps my attention on your business and lets me move quickly when something comes up.

We Agree on What Success Looks Like First
Before I start, we agree on what I own, the priorities, and what progress should look like at three and six months. Nothing starts until we both sign off on it.

I Do the Work
I build the materials, make the calls, run the meetings, and handle the follow-up. You make the decisions without having to manage the details.

We will look at where your time is going, where growth is stalling, and whether a fractional role or a fixed-fee project fits.
